In 1861, Mansfield played a key role in the Civil War as Texas succeeded from the Union and the Man and Feild mill was designated to provide provisions for the Confederate Army. Flour and cornmeal was delivered from Mansfield out of Texas for the first time, as far north as Missouri and east to Louisiana. As the mill thrived, the community continued to grow despite the difficulties other communities faced because of the war.
