Approximately 300 people attended Mansfield’s 31st annual Juneteenth celebration Saturday at McClendon Park.

The event marks the 151st anniversary of the day Gen. Gordon Granger landed in Galveston and informed the Texas slaves that they had been freed two years before by the Emancipation Proclamation. Black Texans have celebrated June 19, or Juneteenth, ever since with games, barbecue and community gatherings.
