The Keller varsity hockey team lost to McKinney on Thursday night by a score of 2-1 in overtime at the McKinney StarCenter South Arena.
McKinney scored first in the game at the 7:12 mark of the first period to take a 1-0 lead heading into the second period of play.
Keller answered with a goal of its own in the second period on a power-play goal from Zach Hale to tie the game back up.
Dominic Bourgoin and Lane MacDougal both earned assists on the Hale goal for Keller.
McKinney scored in overtime to earn the victory.
Keller was out shot 27-25 in the game, and Dalton Baker stopped 24 of 25 shots on goal.
The varsity team will play Frisco at 8 p.m. on Feb. 12 at the Euless StarCenter Green Arena.
JV Gold rallies against Flower Mound
The Keller Junior Varsity gold hockey team rallied late to defeat Flower Mound on Sunday and move to 9-5 in the conference standings.
Flower Mound jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game and took that lead into the second period.
Brian Lassan broke through for Keller on an assist from Hunter Ihnfeldt less than two minutes into the period to cut the JV Gold’s deficit to one.
Carson Chipman then scored on a power-play goal for Keller on an assist from John Yonce and Tristan Hullum to tie the game up.
Flower Mound regained the lead early in the fourth at the 6:47 mark of the second period.
From there, it was all Keller, as the JV Gold team scored three unanswered goals in the final four minutes of the game from Lassan, Chipman and Joey Trazzera to put the game away.
Chipman and Blake Campbell earned the assists on the Lassan and Chipman goals.
Keller had 31 shots on goal to Flower Mound’s 25 shots.
JV Silver team wins overtime thriller
The Keller Junior Varsity Silver team won an exciting overtime contest against John Paul II on Sunday night, taking a 4-3 victory to earn the victory.
Keller scored first in the game on a goal from Corbin Yanez and assists from Eric Hohler and Joshua Pafford.
John Paul II scored and the game was tied 1-1 heading into the second.
John Paul II scored late in the second period and looked as though it was take a lead into the third, before Mitchell Clifton scored an unassisted goal to tie the game back up.
John Paul II scored again in the third period to take the lead once again, before James Luttrull scored with 2:37 to play to tie the game back up.
Clifton scored in overtime to get the victory for Keller.
