The Keller schools made their mark at the district swim and dive meet last week and look to have strong showings at the regional meet this coming weekend.
Keller High School coach Linda Shults said that following a clean sweep of district, her team is riding pretty high and looking forward to the competition that region will have to offer.
“Both the boys and girls teams swam well,” Shults said. “The girls team was dominant in district, winning by 100 points over the next place team. We have a very good group going to regionals. My boys were about 50 points ahead of Byron Nelson, who had a strong showing as well. They also won district.”
Shults said she had a number of athletes perform well at the meet.
“I would say that all of my varsity kids performed very well, but the ones that (did) especially well are my freshman and sophomore swimmers that stepped up and really helped us and are going to help us at regionals,” Shultz said. “Guys like Peyton Lucas. He did a great job of stepping up, and nobody has really heard his name. Holt Ragsdale is another one, and Matthew Howrey also did very well. My three divers, Taylor Ohlhauser, Emily Grund and Sarah Voss were one, two and three in diving.”
Diver John Spence brought home a district title.
Shults said the objective for the regional meet is to get all three relay teams on both sides to the state meet.
“It’s going to be very key to get those relays down there, so we can score enough points to possibly win state,” Shults said.
