The Keller school district has five National Merit Semifinalists for the Class of 2016.
They are Christopher Kung and David Torkington from Central High School, Sajid Ahsan from Fossil Ridge High School, and Thomas Portier and Douglas Riggs from Keller High School.
About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools participated in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. About half of the Semifinalists will become National Merit Scholars, earning scholarship funds for college.
