Keller ISD tourney to offer tough competition this week

Leading up to the start of the District 5-6A schedule on Dec. 18, the Keller ISD teams will be able to garner additional court experience this week.

As hosts for the 16-team field in the Keller ISD Varsity Tournament, each of the four schools will host at least two home court games.

The tournament starts on Thursday afternoon with the first round games at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The Keller ISD teams will be featured in the second game of the day on Thursday and will play on their home courts.

Prior to the start of the tournament, the schools had varying lead-in games and other tournament appearances.

Central dropped a tough game to Nolan Catholic in the Lake Worth Tournament, 81-79. Nick Rischer and James DeSilva led the Chargers with 16 and 15 points respectively, while Matt Simmons added 11. Win over 75-54 win over Lake Worth.

Central is matched with Paschal in the first round of the KISD event on Thursday at 6 p.m. A win would match the Chargers against the winner of Trinity vs. Georgetown on Friday morning.

Timber Creek beat Arlington Seguin, 61-60 and then posted a large win over Fort Worth Christian, 58-24 before heading into the Chisholm Trail Tournament.

At the tournament, the Falcons placed third and picked up additional wins over Aledo and Granbury for the bronze medal.

Timber Creek head coach Brad Mouser said the team will now prep for a big week with Birdville and then the Keller ISD Tournament.

The Falcons will start with Irving on Thursday at 6 p.m. on their home floor. With a win, they would take on the winner of Temple vs. Amarillo Tascosa on Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Keller lost in the first round of the NE Lions Club Tournament to Frisco Centennial, 48-45 and to Richland, 77-73, but did beat Birdville.

The Indians will take on John Paul II in the first round of the KISD tourney on Thursday at 6 p.m. Should they win, they could potentially match up with Birdville again, as they are on the top side of the same bracket, playing McKinney. That winner’s-side game will be on Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Fossil Ridge, 5-3, had a good outing last week and was to play Irving on Tuesday.

In the Sanger Tournament, Ridge went 4-1, notching wins over Western Hills, Dallas Jefferson, Frisco Independence and Howe. Their only loss was to Lubbock Cooper.

The Panthers are due to take on Arlington in the first round on Thursday at 6 p.m. The second round game, should they win, would be Friday at 10:30 a.m. against the winner of Frenship and LD Bell.
