Teacher of the Month
Independence Elementary kindergarten teacher Gina Mitchell was honored recently as the Teacher of the Month by the Automotive Edge Radio Show. A student and the student’s family wrote a letter to the show nominating Mitchell. She received $250, a complete car detail package and a spa day.
Anti-bullying program featured
KISD’s ROCK (Reaching Out with Character and Kindness) Anti-Bullying Program was recently featured in the “Eighth Annual Bragging Rights” special issue of The Texas School Business Magazine. Each year, school administrators and educators nominate their top innovative programs for consideration. Only 12 of nearly 100 submissions were selected.
Holiday from school
All KISD campuses will be closed for the holidays from Dec. 22 through Jan. 2, faculty and staff return Jan. 5 and classes resume Jan. 6.
Recipe for Success
Trinity Hoover, a fifth-grader at Beck Elementary, has been named this year’s Jr. Chef in the NISD’s recent competition with food supplier Aramark. Students submitted a unique recipe, explained why the recipe is healthy and presented a photo of the prepared meal. Hoover’s recipe was Veggie Quinoa Pasta Salad. Hoover will receive a cookbook, 17-piece Curious Chef measure and prep kit with kitchen tools. Her dish was featured in all NISD elementary cafeterias Dec. 16. Her recipe was selected for its creativity and taste and for her explanation of why her dish is healthy.
It’s in the Cards
Byron Nelson High School junior Shifah Mohammed is this year’s winner of the NISD holiday card art competition. The winning art is featured on the cover of the district’s holiday greeting card. The card is sent to district staff members, local businesses, state senators, state representatives and many organizations throughout the state of Texas. Runners up include Byron Nelson High School freshman Zoe Young, Tidwell Middle School sixth-grader Madison Sky, Wilson Middle School eighth-grader Ethan Le and Byron Nelson High School sophomore Devon Sutton.
Taking a Break
NISD campuses and offices will be closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 2. Faculty and staff will return to work Jan. 5. Classes resume Jan. 6.
