Beginning Aug. 6, work will begin to permanently close a small section of J.T. Ottinger Road between the Texas 170 frontage roads because of safety issues.
The move will prevent drivers from crossing the Texas 170 east and westbound lanes, which has been determined to be a safety concern, Westlake spokeswoman Susan McFarland said. This also will prevent westbound traffic in the left lane from slowing down to turn left, or southbound, onto J.T. Ottinger Road, she said.
Westbound traffic headed to south J.T. Ottinger Road will continue westbound about 1,500 feet to a U-turn lane and cross over to the eastbound side of Texas 170 to utilize southbound J.T. Ottinger Road.
To access Main Street in Roanoke from south J.T. Ottinger Road, traffic will head east on Texas 170 to the Trophy Lake Drive crossover, make a U-turn to westbound Texas 170, and turn north, or right, onto Main Street.

“This permanent conversion is necessary to improve safety by preventing traffic from slowing down in front of high-speed traffic exiting SH 114 westbound via the SH 170 direct connect ramp,” McFarland said.
She said it would “prevent traffic crossing over SH 170 from south J.T. Ottinger Road from crossing in front of high-speed traffic on westbound SH 170.”
