Annie has been disabled and unemployed for years with bipolar disorder, “because some days my moods are OK, and others I wake up kind of like in a glitch.”

Her condition has gotten Annie the boot from every job she’s tried.

“I lose my temper at the worst times,” she said. “I try to stay away from people on those days.”

But Johnathon, 11, Kelsy, 10, and Sasha, 9, are with Annie all the time.

“My older daughter and son know when I have my bad days and they help me as much as they can,” Annie said. “They understand.”

Annie’s medications can be expensive, though most are paid for through Medicaid. Being a single mom means that just taking care of her family’s basic needs stretches each dollar as far as it will go.

The three $50 J.C. Penney gift cards from the Goodfellow Fund — good for clothes and shoes for the kids — made sure Christmas would not be so bleak.

“I went on Black Friday and got Johnathon some jeans; he needed them bad,” Annie said. “I got the girls shirts and jeans as well. I got all three kids jackets.”

She didn’t have enough left for shoes, but Annie said the ones they have should make it until some other money comes in.

“I’m very grateful for the Goodfellow Fund,” she said. “This is my second time getting help. It’s a blessing for a single parent and the kids.”

Annie said the only plan she has for climbing out of her circumstances is prayer.

“I’m hoping that something is going to happen,” Annie said. “I’m hoping for a job that will be understanding of my condition.”
