Loop 820 accident in Fort Worth sends semi-truck off bridge

A rock hauler swerved off the edge of a bridge Monday after an accident on Northwest Loop 820 in Fort Worth.

The truck driver, a man in his 40s, was rescued from the cab of the truck as it hung partly off the bridge, according to a police report.

The man was taken to the hospital with “significant injuries,” said Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Kyle Clay.

The accident happened about noon Monday in the westbound lane of Loop 820 near the Old Decatur Road exit.

The truck driver was trying to avoid a collision between two cars on the highway when he went off the bridge, said Sgt. Marc Povero, a police spokesman. No one else was injured.

Crews were still working to get the truck off the bridge about 3 p.m. Monday. Clay said the inside westbound lane of the highway was expected to be closed the rest of the afternoon.
