Pedestrian, motorist killed on Interstate 20 in Fort Worth

A pedestrian was killed early Sunday when he attempted to cross a Fort Worth highway. Then a motorist driving by the scene died after being hit by an 18-wheeler.

A motorist who had been involved in an accident was killed when he got out of his vehicle and tried to cross Interstate 20 early Sunday, police said.

A second motorist, Luis Almazan, 38, was driving nearby on Interstate 20 when his vehicle was hit by an 18-wheeler, police said. He later died at John Peter Smith Hospital, according to Tarrant County Medical Examiner records.

The name of the other victim had not been released by authorities pending notification of relatives.

Patrol officers responded to the first major accident call shortly after 1:30 a.m. at Interstate 20 and Oak Grove Road.

The victim had been involved in an accident in the westbound lanes, police said Sunday. He was trying to cross the eastbound lanes when he was hit by several vehicles, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second fatality occurred minutes later as vehicles slowly moved by the scene of the first one.

Police continued to investigate both fatal accidents Sunday.
