A 79-year-old Burleson woman was killed in a car wreck Tuesday in a small Johnson County town.
Maria Moore was driving a Honda Civic east on U.S. 67 near County Road 801B about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to a Keene Police Department news release, when she pulled onto the shoulder, slowed down, then tried to make a U-turn across oncoming traffic.
A westbound pickup driver tried to avoid the Civic, but the vehicles collided on the westbound shoulder, sending the vehicles into opposite ditches, the release says.
Police believe Moore was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead about 4 p.m.
