A Fort Worth police officer was in a minor car crash just before noon Thursday while pursuing a murder suspect, according to police.
The officer was en route to assist the Fort Worth Police Department’s Fugitive Unit in locating Pedro Ramos, 35.
Ramos is wanted in the shooting death of a man in December, said Fort Worth police officer Daniel Segura, a department spokesman. Ramos remains at large, police said.
On the evening of Dec. 13, police received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 2800 block of Hemphill St., he said. Investigators concluded that Ramos and the victim, Eloy Alvarado, 43, were in a fight and that Ramos shot Alvarado, Segura said.
“Ramos fled the scene and the victim was transported to the nearest hospital. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries several days after,” Segura wrote in an email.
Alvarado was pronounced dead Jan. 3 at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. The cause of death is still pending.
Thursday’s accident, at 11:55 a.m., occurred at the intersection of Hemphill Street and West Seminary Drive. The injured were treated and released at the scene, Segura said.
