Police officer Matt Pearce remained in critical condition Monday but was “showing small signs of improvement,” a Fort Worth police spokesman said.

Pearce, 36, was shot multiple times March 15 while chasing a father and son in a wooded area in far west Fort Worth.

He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital. On Monday afternoon, his wife posted to a GoFundMe page that Pearce “just opened his eyes” and started moving his leg.

“I went over and asked him if he was hurting and he shook his head no,” his wife wrote about 4:30 p.m. Monday. “I asked him if he was scared and he again said no. I told him where he was and what day it was and that I loved him.”

The page had raised more than $69,000 by Monday afternoon.

During the shootout, Ed R. McIver, 42, who had a long criminal record, was killed by police and his son was taken into custody. Ed McIver Jr., 20, faces several charges including evading arrest and attempted capital murder.
