A 47-year-old man with a long history of drug convictions now stands accused of fatally stabbing a man in a robbery last month.
Jesse Anderson Petite was being held in the Mansfield jail Friday following his arrest a day earlier on a capital murder warrant.
His bail is set at $300,000.
Petite is accused of robbing and fatally stabbing Jeffrey White.
White, 52, was found dead on his living room couch Sept. 29 in his apartment in the 250 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. His throat had been cut.
Homicide Sgt. Joe Loughman said investigators believe Petite and White were casual acquaintances who had met at a bar not far from White’s apartment on the day of White’s death.
He said investigators believe White was killed several days before the afternoon of Sept. 29, when a concerned family member went to his apartment to check on him and found him dead.
Loughman said there were no signs of forced entry into Petite’s apartment. He declined to say what police believe was stolen in the robbery.
Tarrant County court records show Petite received eight drug convictions between 1987 and 2012 for offenses including possession of a controlled substance and delivery/manufacturing of a controlled substance.
