Clear skies and moderate temperatures mean the weather is cooperating for the installation of bridge beams on Interstate 35W at the U.S. 81-287 split Monday and Tuesday nights.
But that means a major detour for southbound travelers on the interstate.
Southbound lanes of I-35W will be shut down at U.S. 81/287 from 9 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday, and again from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Crews will be installing bridge beams for a new ramp from northbound lanes of the freeway to U.S. 81/287 (also known as the Decatur cutoff), said Michael Peters, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Transportation.

Southbound drivers will detour to U.S. 81/287 northbound to Harmon Road to U.S. 81/287 southbound back to I-35W southbound, Peters said.
Police officers will be present to direct traffic.
The work was first scheduled for late last week but was postponed when dense fog settled in. — Staff report
