An Arlington man has a bullet lodged in his spine but is expected to walk again after being shot Friday while driving on an east Fort Worth freeway, a relative said Monday.
The shooting occurred in 5400 block of East Loop 820 shortly after 6 p.m. Friday. Someone in a white Chevy Tahoe fired several shots at him, Fort Worth police said.
“Gary didn’t do anything to the driver,” said the wounded man’s sister-in-law, Amanda Gordon. “Once he got out of surgery all he could say is, ‘I don’t know why this happened to me.’ He doesn’t know who the attacker was. He was alone.”
The Star-Telegram agreed to identify the wounded man by just his first name, Gary, because his family fears retaliation by the gunman, Gordon said.

No one had been arrested by late Monday.
Gordon said Gary and her sister, his finance, were driving in separate vehicles when her sister saw Gary’s pickup and the suspect’s vehicle veer sharply off the highway. The sport utility vehicle took off in the direction of Fort Worth, but Gary pulled over.
“She went over and he fell out of his truck, and said, ‘Call 911,’ ” Gordon was told. “He had blood coming out of his mouth.”
Gary “might have” swerved to avoid another driver and cut off the SUV driver, Gordon said.
The man shot at Gary 4 or 5 times, she said.
Gary is recuperating at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, she said.
“Doctors are probably going to leave the bullet in his spine,” Gordon said. “With some physical therapy he will be able to walk again.”
Fort Worth police had no updates on the case Monday night, a spokeswoman said.
