After weeks of rain, motorists can expect a hurried effort by road crews to get highway work back on schedule.
To that effect, motorists on Loop 820 in north Fort Worth may want to make alternate plans in midweek.
Eastbound Loop 820 will be closed to all traffic at the Interstate 35W interchange from 9 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. Thursday. The closure is needed to make improvements related to the $1.4 billion North Tarrant Express I-35W expansion.
The work includes a modernization of I-35W from Interstate 30 near downtown Fort Worth to north of the U.S. 287 “Decatur cutoff.”

Not only will the Loop 820 main lanes be closed, but ramps to eastbound Loop 820 from both directions of I-35W will be shut down as well. Drivers will be urged to use detours such as Meacham Boulevard.

I-35W is routinely listed as one of the most congested corridors in Texas. In the state’s most recent measurement, the 6.5-mile section of the highway from downtown Fort Worth to Loop 820 was eighth worst.
Work on the roadway is expected to be completed by 2018.
