Denton police followed a trail of blood only to find a 23-year-old man dead in an alley on Tuesday morning.
Police said in a press release they believe he died from an unknown illness and notified the Denton County Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to NBC DFW.
Several hours later, the police said they released incorrect information and the CDC was not contacted, Fox News reported.
At about 9:40 a.m., a man called police after seeing a man stumble and fall in the alley behind houses along the 3600 block of Camino Real and Del Ray Drive, the Denton Record Chronicle reported.

The man had a large amount of blood on his face, but there was no obvious wound. Detectives later learned the man had recently returned from Vietnam and had been ill for several weeks, NBC DFW reported.
Investigators originally said they notified the local health department and CDC, but later retracted that statement, according to Fox News.
Police said they had released incorrect information. Denton County health officials now say the death is being investigated like any other and the CDC has not been contacted. They added there is no public health risk.
