Wrong-way driver dies of injuries from Grand Prairie wreck

A wrong-way pickup driver has died of injuries sustained Saturday in a wreck on a two-lane street in north Grand Prairie, police said Monday.

Jose Luis Martinez, 32, of Grand Prairie died at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas Monday morning.

The driver of the other vehicle, Ramon Zuniga, 35, of Fort Worth, was taken to a Dallas hospital with a broken leg. A 49-year-old passenger with Zuniga was not injured, police said.

The crash was reported at 9:40 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of W. Oakdale Road in north Grand Prairie. Martinez’s 2001 Ford F150 pickup was eastbound in the westbound lane on Oakdale when it collided with Zuniga’s 1998 Mazda pickup, police said.

Martinez was intoxicated and on the wrong side of the road, police said.

It was the fifth fatality in the city this year.
