Four children suffer minor injuries after buses collide I-35

One child was hospitalized with minor injuries and three others treated on the scene after their buses collided while on their way to a band competition Friday morning.

Three buses filled with 83 children from the Robinson school district, located south of Waco, had been on their way to a band competition at a water park in North Richland Hills when the wreck occurred about 9:15 a.m. on the South Freeway near Allen Street in Fort Worth, officials say.

Tracey Knight, a Fort Worth police spokeswoman, said one of the bus drivers had stopped quickly to avoid hitting a dog on Interstate 35W when it was rear-ended by the bus following it. The third bus, she said, had unrelated mechanical problems.

Matt Zavadsky, a MedStar spokesman, said a 13-year-old girl was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center for minor injuries. Three other students were treated at the scene for what he also described as minor injuries.

The other children and three bus drivers were not hurt, he said.

Knight said the school district was sending three buses to pick up the students and return them home.
