A woman with a recent criminal history in Tarrant County was in custody Monday, accused of capital murder in the death over the weekend of a Fort Worth man.

Jail records identified the suspect as Cassandra Guzman Garcia, 24, of Fort Worth. She was booked into the Fort Worth Jail on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Corey Brown, 37, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's website on Monday. Brown died at 8:46 a.m. Saturday at John Peter Smith Hospital.

The shooting happened at the Motel 6 in the 900 block of East Northside Drive. Police found Brown with a gunshot wound to his upper body, authorities said.

Police say they believe that the incident started as a robbery and that several other people were present. Police declined to say if Garcia is the suspected shooter.

Garcia was in and out of jail between 2014 and 2017, according to Tarrant County criminal court records. She has been arrested 14 times for crimes ranging from theft to drug possession, mostly methamphetamine.

Her most recent arrest was last June on charges of possession of a controlled substance.
