An area of Dallas/Fort Worth Airport was evacuated Friday afternoon after a “suspicious item” was discovered near a baggage claim in Terminal D, the airport said in a statement.
Police were still investigating the item. The incident happened near Gate 30, outside of the secure area of the terminal. The area was cleared in about two hours, officials said.
Activity inside the secure area of the terminal went unaffected. Travelers were asked to temporarily check in at a different terminal and then take the airport shuttle to Terminal D.
American Airlines, which is the largest operator of flights out of Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, said there was no impact on flight operations out of Terminal D during the incident.
