Captain America emerges from a structure made of 7,500 cans with a plea for help.
“Join me, Captain America, in the fight to shield North Texans from hunger and food insecurity,” a sign explains.
The structure called “Unite and Fight for The Hungry” is one of 11 on display at North East Mall as part of the18th Annual CANstruction competition.
“I think it is kind of amazing,” said Brad W. Burns, 37 of Fort Worth. “They are super great.”

The contest is presented by the Fort Worth Chapters of the Society for Design Administration and The American Institute of Architects. People can vote online at OneCanFortWorth.com for their favorite canned structure, which in turn benefits the Tarrant Area Food Bank.
Each vote costs a minimum of $5, which is donated to the food bank. Voting ends at 3 p.m. Sunday.
“Each dollar provides five meals and so $5 provides 25 meals,” said Francie Cooper, the food bank’s director community events: “It is really amazing how significant small donations can be.”
