Man wanted in Fort Worth homicide surrenders after Dallas standoff

Fort Worth and Dallas police arrested a suspect in a Fort Worth homicide Tuesday evening after a nearly three-hour standoff at a northwest Dallas motel.

A warrant was issued accusing Benjamin Strauch, 28, of murder in the fatal shooting of Kelly Duane Kvale on May 30.

Fort Worth officers and officers with the U.S. marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force located Strauch about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the motel in the 2600 block of Walnut Hill Lane in northwest Dallas. As the officers approached, Strauch fired several shots. The officers retreated and called for help from a Dallas police SWAT team, according to news releases from Fort Worth and Dallas police.

Strauch barricaded himself inside a room. About 7 p.m., SWAT officers entered the room, and Strauch surrendered. He was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital for treatment for tear gas exposure, the Fort Worth news release said.

He will be transferred to the Fort Worth jail, the news release said.
