A former Plano Senior High School baseball standout was sentenced to 33 years in prison this week for sexually assaulting a child.
According to reporting from WFAA, Zachary Holifield, 19, began abusing a 5-year-old at his mother's home-based daycare while the mother was busy or away.
The child told her parents in June 2016 about the abuse, the WFAA story said. Another child who attended the daycare also reported being sexually abused, the WFAA story said.
Holifield pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child and was sentenced to 33 years without the possibility of parole, according to the WFAA story.
Holifield was a former standout pitcher at Plano Senior High School and had committed to play for Oklahoma State University before his arrest, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis told a WFAA reporter.
