A man was killed Saturday night when he was hit by a vehicle on Texas 360 after he ran onto the highway, police said.

The victim was identified as Joaquin Rivera, 41, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website Sunday. A hometown was not listed on the website, but public records indicated Rivera had lived in Dallas.

No other injuries were reported in the accident, which occurred about 9:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Texas 360.

Witnesses told police they saw a man run up an embankment, onto the highway and face oncoming traffic. He was waving his hands when he was hit by the vehicle, police said.

The motorist stopped after hitting the victim, police said.

Officers arrived and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Other witnesses told police that Rivera had made statements indicating he wanted to commit suicide.

Officers closed the highway for several hours as authorities investigated the fatal accident.
