Roderic Smith didn't have a very happy 27th birthday.
He was pulled over on Saturday in the 4100 block of South Cooper Street in Arlington on suspicion of driving without insurance, police spokeswoman Karen Standback said Monday.
She said officers randomly check license plates while on patrol and receive state records indicating whether the vehicles are insured.

The officer who pulled Smith over turned up a 9mm handgun that he was carrying unlawfully, Standback said, as well as several ounces of marijuana in his car. He faces charges for both offenses, she said.
"This person is not having a good start to his birthday today," Police Chief Will Johnson tweeted afterward.
The traffic stop happened about 2:30 p.m., Standback said.
