In North Texas, you never know if it will feel like Christmas during the holiday season.

But a new Christmas festival, Enchant, will provide the look of winter wonderland.

Organizers announced in September that they would be moving the festival from Vancouver, Canada to a new location and Arlington jumped in to nab the eye-grabbing attraction.

Just north of Globe Life Park, the festival includes a maze of lights, ice skating rink and vendors that will contain the popular Chriskindl market that has been an Arlington staple since 2011.

Officials are predicting it will attract more than 400,000 visitors during its run that starts Friday and ends on Dec. 31.

“This is more than just a maze, ice skating rink, market and entertainment,” said Decima Mullen, a spokeswoman for the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau. “This is a new holiday family attraction for the city.”

The festival will include more than 300,000-square-feet of space. Produced by Vancouver-based Shine Lighting Group , both the convention and visitors bureau and the Texas Rangers are partners in the project.

Some former fans of Christkindl Market are upset that Enchant will cost $29.95 for regular admission. A Jeer in the Star-Telegram’s Cheers and Jeers earlier this month said “attendees and vendors should be outraged” over the admission cost.

Mullen said changes needed to made to keep Christkindl going.

“The Texas Christkindl Market was not sustainable in its current form, so this partnership is a way to keep our market alive through a fantastic opportunity and amazing event,” Mullen said

In their own research, Mullen said the public was ready for something new and Arlington was looking for a major attraction to bring to the city.

“We compiled over 6 years of Christkindl questionnaires, surveys, vendor feedback, guest feedback, social media feedback… and everything pointed to the need to try something different,” Mullen said.
