Police are investigating a fatal collision that caused the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer to be thrown from her vehicle.

Myrtle Jones, 63, of Dallas, was pronounced dead late Thursday after she arrived at Medical City Arlington by ambulance, a news release from the Grand Prairie Police Department said.

The wreck occurred about 10:25 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 20 near the South Carrier Parkway exit, according to police. Darius Jones, 21, of Mansfield, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu when he suddenly changed lanes into the path of the TrailBlazer that Myrtle Jones was driving, the release said. The two drivers are not related, police said.

The sudden shift caused both vehicles to swerve to the outside shoulder and collide into the guardrail. The TrailBlazer overturned down an embankment and Myrtle Jones, the driver and sole occupant, was ejected.

Darius Jones was also transported to Medical City Arlington where he was treated and released. A 21-year-old occupant in the Malibu was not injured.

This is the seventh traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year, the release said.
