Arlington student charged with terroristic threat

A 12-year-old student at Nichols Junior High School was arrested in connection with a terroristic threat last Friday after he reportedly threatened to “blow up the school,” according to Arlington police.

The boy, whose name was not released, was arrested after a student told his teacher that the boy threatened to take his backpack into a restroom and blow up the school, said Lt. Chris Cook, Arlington police spokesman. The incident happened at 3:17 p.m.

The classroom was evacuated until they could determine there was no danger or explosive in the backpack. Cook said the student later said that he was “joking.”

The 12-year-old was charged with felony terroristic threat.

The youth’s older sister said the parents didn’t want to comment, but she said she believed the arrest was racially motivated. The family is Indian and practices the Sikh religion.
