With Thanksgiving turkey and Black Friday shopping in the rearview mirror, Christmas decorating has been in full swing.

One of Tarrant County’s favorite traditions — the Interlochen holiday lights display in west Arlington — kicks off Thursday. This year marks the 40th anniversary of what Texas Country Reporter viewers have in the past voted as the state’s best Christmas lights display.

Arlington police will direct traffic at the popular destination Thursday through Christmas night, said Ralph Sobel, president of the Lake Interlochen Homeowners Association.

In addition to the regular prizes awarded annually (Most Artistic, Best Theme, Griswald Award), Sobel said, each resident who has decorated for all 40 years will get a special award.
