‘Incorrect information’ resulted in TCC faculty having to reimburse college
Tarrant County College faculty members who have to repay a portion of their salaries were misinformed about their contractual requirements, according to the college.
The Star-Telegram reported Nov. 7 that 65 TCC faculty members were ordered to reimburse the college for money they received during this year’s first summer session. Those affected taught online and/or weekend courses offered through TCC Connect.
Chancellor Elva LeBlanc provided a statement to the Star-Telegram saying the affected faculty members taught fewer classes than required by their contracts. According to TCC’s policies, full-time faculty members are required to teach a minimum of four courses over the college’s two summer sessions — two in the first session and two in the second session.
However, when asked follow-up questions, LeBlanc responded with a statement that read “faculty members were provided with incorrect information counter to TCC policy and state law.”
Through a TCC spokesperson, LeBlanc said the college is reviewing faculty recommendations for how to handle the reimbursements.
“Our goal is to provide the affected faculty members fair and flexible repayment options,” wrote LeBlanc. “We will explore all repayment options to accommodate each impacted faculty member.”
