A 65-year-old man was hit and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night on a service road in south Fort Worth, authorities said.

The man was identified as Loney Lee Bishop of Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website on Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at 10:08 p.m. in the emergency room at John Peter Smith Hospital.

Fort Worth police responded to an accident involving an automobile and pedestrian just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday near the northbound lanes of the South Freeway service road and East Berry Street. Fort Worth Fire Department and MedStar personnel also responded to the scene.

When they arrived, officers learned that Bishop had been walking in the roadway of the northbound lanes of the South Freeway service road when he was hit by a passenger vehicle that was traveling north.

The driver of the car tried to avoid striking the man but collided with another vehicle and then hit Bishop, police said.

The drivers of both vehicles remained on scene and are cooperating with investigating officers.

No criminal charges are expected to be filed in the case, police said.
