Residents evacuated from homes, 16 apartments damaged in Grand Prairie fire
Over a dozen apartments were damaged by a fire at a Grand Prairie complex Wednesday.
The blaze broke out around 11 a.m. near the 2600 block of Hawco Drive, fire officials said.
“Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire in the attic of the building and assisted with the evacuation of the residents,” the Grand Prairie Fire Department said in a news release. “A total of 16 apartment units were directly affected by fire, smoke or water.”
No residents or firefighters were injured, the department said.
The American Red Cross and Grand Prairie Office of Emergency Management were on scene to help affected families. Families were also relocated to other units in the same property.
The investigation into what caused the fire remains ongoing.
