Arlington police accuse man of killing girlfriend

Hours after his girlfriend was found fatally stabbed on Sunday, an Arlington man was arrested after he wrecked her car in Grand Prairie, police said Tuesday.

Police responding about 5 a.m. Sunday to a call from the 1000 block of Royal Circle found the body of a woman who had been stabbed, Arlington police said in a news release.

The woman, Heather Bruenig, 29, had been seen with her boyfriend, Javier Vasquez, 25.

Her car was missing, police said. A few hours later, an officer saw it heading east on Division Street and tried to pull over the driver. But the driver kept going and eventually crashed in Grand Prairie.

The driver was identified as Vasquez and was arrested, police said.

On Tuesday, police said, he was facing a murder charge in Bruenig’s death.

Bruenig died of multiple stabs in the neck, the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office reported.

Her death was the 14th homicide in Arlington in 2016. There were eight in 2015.
