Arlington police search for sexual assault suspect caught on store camera
Police are asking the public to help identify a man who offered help to a woman at a gas station last week but instead sexually assaulted her.
Surveillance cameras at a gas station in the 800 block of North Watson Road, which is just east of Six Flags Over Texas, captured video of the man just before the assault early Oct. 29, police said.
The 20-year-old woman was waiting outside the station for her father to pick her up, Detective Angie Franco said Friday.
The man “approached her and acted like a good Samaritan to help her,” Franco said. “He lured her into his vehicle and that’s where he became aggressive, took out a weapon, threatened her … and sexually assaulted her.”
The video shows the man outside the glass doors of the station before the assault. He could not enter because at that hour purchases could be made only through a window.
“This guy is a violent offender,” Franco said. “Any information that the public can help to assist us get this guy off the streets will be appreciated.”
The man is a heavy-set Anglo with dirty blond to brownish hair, a goatee and blue eyes. He was driving a 2000 to 2006 white Chevrolet Suburban with no front grille, factory rims, black trim, black luggage racks and tinted windows. The Suburban’s hood and passenger-side door were damaged, police said.
