Train hits car hauler in southeast Arlington; no one hurt, but traffic snarled

No one was hurt Monday afternoon when a freight train hit a tractor-trailer hauling cars in southeast Arlington, but the wreckage caused traffic delays for nearly three hours.

The wreck happened shortly after 3 p.m. at a rail crossing near the intersection of Great Southwest Parkway and Division Street, said Tiara Ellis Richard, a police spokeswoman.

The train from Union Pacific Railroad had been eastbound, Richard said.

Cars were flung from the trailer leading to traffic delays while the debris was removed, Richard said.

The clean up was mostly completed by about 6 p.m., but crews were still checking the train to make sure it was ready to continue, Richard said.
