Authorities ID woman killed in hit-and-run crash on Interstate 20 in Arlington
An 47-year-old woman was killed when she was hit by a car on Interstate 20 in Arlington on Sunday morning, May 25, police said.
Officers responded to the westbound lanes of I-20 near Matlock Road to investigate the fatal hit-and-run crash about 5:15 a.m., police said.
When officers arrived, they found the remains of a woman in the highway lanes. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, police said.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as Angela Marie Leggett.
Investigators determined that Leggett entered the freeway near the overpass and was hit by a vehicle driving west, Arlington police said in a news release on Tuesday, May 27.
The driver who hit her did not stop. A description of the vehicle is not available, police said.
Any witnesses or anyone who has information about this crash are asked to call Accident Investigator Crocker at 817-575-8608. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County at 817-469-8477.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
“The Arlington Police Department would like to remind the public that pedestrians should never enter highway lanes. Due to the speeds vehicles are traveling and the distance they require to brake, attempting to cross a highway is extremely dangerous and can lead to a catastrophic collision,” the release stated. “Pedestrians needing to get from one side of a highway to the other should use designated crossings and sidewalks along overpasses and underpasses.”
I-20 was shut down for about six hours on Sunday while crews worked to clear the scene.
