The largest water park in North Texas is about to get even bigger.

Arlington’s Hurricane Harbor announced late last week that it is gearing up for its largest expansion in park history, which is slated to open in 2025. Theme park giant Six Flags owns the Hurricane Harbor brand, including the Arlington location at 1800 E. Lamar Blvd.

Hurricane Harbor is adding a 58,000-square-foot, multi-level kids play area called Splash Island.

The area will include 110 water features, various water gadgets and a 1,000-gallon tipping water bucket. Seven kid-friendly water slides are also part of the area with the following aquatic-themed names:

  • Cowabunga
  • Jellyfish Twist (two slides)
  • RipQurl
  • Shark Attack
  • Splashin’ Seal
  • Stingray Racer

In addition, the expansion includes a splash pad with 24 water features and updated amenities for guests.

Guests will be able to rent new family cabanas and oversized umbrellas to beat the heat, along with access to refurbished restrooms in the area. Hurricane Harbor also plans to renovate its restaurant.

“This historic expansion at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor represents a whole new experience for families next year,” said Richard Douaihy, park president of Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor. “We are transforming the water park with exciting new family attractions and enhanced comfort and dining options, making it the premier destination for family water park fun in North Texas.”

Hurricane Harbor first opened as Wet ‘n Wild water park in 1983. In 1995, Six Flags bought the water park and the name was changed to Hurricane Harbor in 1997.

Six Flags Over Texas also recently debuted new, kid-friendly attractions, including a water-themed Daffy Duck ride, this summer.
