A 67-year-old man attempting to cross an Arlington street was hit and killed by a car Monday night, Arlington police said.

Officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Abundio Ortiz Resendiz.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and was cooperative with investigators, police said. He is not facing any criminal charges.

The pedestrian was not using a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident, Arlington police said.

Officers responded to the scene just before 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of W. Pioneer Parkway. When they arrived, they found the pedestrian lying unresponsive on the side of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined the man was attempting to cross Pioneer Parkway when he was struck by a 2007 Infiniti G35 that was traveling westbound.

Police noted that pedestrians should always use traffic lights and designated crosswalks when crossing roadways. Cutting across a roadway is dangerous at all times of the day, authorities said, but particularly when it’s dark outside and visibility is reduced.
