More planes are arriving on time at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.
After lagging behind several major U.S. airports in on-time arrivals for the first half of 2015, DFW’s on-time rate improved dramatically, with 85 to 90 percent of flights arriving on time during the fall.
“DFW, in those first nine months, was way behind the pack,” the airport’s executive vice president for operations, Jim Crites, said at the airport’s board meeting on Thursday. “Now you have a hub, a key hub, of American Airlines that’s performing quite handsomely right now which makes the rest of the system perform quite well.”
Crites pointed to American’s decision to rebank its schedule at DFW last spring and efforts to place similar aircraft at the same terminal as factors contributing to improved operations.

According to a chart Crites showed the board, DFW had its lowest on-time arrival rating in February, when only 70 percent of flights were on time. In December, 88.9 percent of the flights arrived on time, bested only by Atlanta’s 89.4 percent.
“An on-time flight usually drives pretty high customer satisfaction,” airport chief executive Sean Donohue said.
In the past year, Donohue has focused the airport staff on improving customer service at DFW. During the winter storms after Christmas, Donohue said the airport passed out over 500 pizzas to passengers who were waiting in long lines to rebook canceled flights.
During the December weather event, DFW had 1,500 cancellations and 100 flight diversions along with 13 different ground stops ordered by the Federal Aviation Administration. Over a couple of days, 7,000 customers spent the night in DFW’s terminals, Donohue said.
Separately, the airport reported that it served 5,103,283 passengers in November, up 7.1 percent compared to November 2014. International passengers were also up 7 percent, the airport said.
However, landed weights were slightly lower as airlines carried more passengers on fewer flights as they improved load factors and yields.
