Over 26 pounds of cocaine were found on an American Airlines Boeing 757 while it was undergoing maintenance in Tulsa on Tuesday.

Mechanics for the Fort Worth-based carrier found two packages of a white powdery substance during a routine maintenance check at American’s Tulsa maintenance base.

“Upon discovery, American immediately contacted law enforcement,” said American spokeswoman Andrea Huguely. “Our corporate security team is working directly with law enforcement during their investigation.”

The plane had originated in Bogotá, Colombia and had made several stops before arriving in Tulsa, said Tulsa County Sheriff Office public information officer Justin Green.

“Deputies and [Drug Enforcement Agency] agents removed 10 square packages from the plane which totaled 26.2 pounds,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “The substance has been positively identified as cocaine.”

The investigation is currently ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
