American Airlines said passenger traffic grew slightly, up 0.7 percent in May.
The Fort Worth-based carrier also increased its capacity by 2.1 percent and its load factor dropped 1.2 percentage points.
American told investors it expects unit revenues to be down 6 to 8 percent in the second quarter. It also expects to pay between $1.86 and $1.91 per gallon for jet fuel in the quarter.
