American Airlines has a new Asian destination for North Texas travelers.

On Thursday, the Fort Worth-based carrier launched daily flights from Dallas/Fort Worth to Beijing.

“The new destination further enhances our network footprint and allows for one-stop connections through DFW between Asia and major business and leisure destinations in North, Central and South America,” said American chief executive Doug Parker.

The first flight left DFW at 11:20 a.m. and will arrive in China’s capital city at 2:15 p.m. the next day. The return flight departs Beijing at 4:25 p.m. and arrives at DFW at 4:45 p.m. the same day.

Initially, American will use a Boeing 777-200 on the route but plans to upgrade the route to a Dreamliner on June 2.

American launched service to Hong Kong and Shanghai last year from DFW Airport. The carrier currently offers flights to Beijing out of its hub in Chicago.
