Bell Helicopter announced the sale of 100 commercial helicopters to Chinese firms on Tuesday.

The deal with Shaanxi Aviation Industry Development Co. and Xi’an Helicopter Company includes helping the Chinese firms establish a company to handle assembly and resale of Bell 407GXP helicopters to Chinese governments and their customers. The Chinese companies plan to buy 100 Bell 407GXP commercial helicopters over the next five years and will use the helicopters for emergency medical services and law enforcement missions.

The deal was announced at Airshow China in Zhuhai.

“As a reliable and multi-use aircraft, there continues to be strong demand for the Bell 407GXP in China and around the globe, and we are proud to see such significant trust in this helicopter,” said Patrick Moulay, executive vice president of global commercial sales and marketing at Bell.

There are currently 45 Bell 407s operating in China being used for tourism and corporate customers. The 407 is a small commercial helicopter that can seat up to 6 passengers.

“The cooperation will bring advanced technology and vitality to our helicopter market and improve the service quality of the helicopter industry in China,” said Shaanxi’s president Xiaoning Yuan. “We believe that Bell 407GXP’s performance, safety characteristics and operating economics makes it the right helicopter for Chinese market.”
