American Airlines passenger traffic drops 2.8 percent in August

American Airlines said its passenger traffic in August declined 2.8 percent as the carrier added 1.4 percent more capacity to its network.

As a result, planes were not as full with its passenger load factor decreasing 3.6 percentage points to 82.9 percent.

The Fort Worth-based carrier told investors that it expects unit revenues to be down 3 to 5 percent for the third quarter.
