Next month, Texas Wesleyan University in east Fort Worth will start a 15-month, $6.2 million infrastructure project to promote environmental stewardship and reduce energy waste on campus.
The project is expected to save the university more than $12 million over the next 15 years, officials said.
The school will replace and upgrade heating, ventilation and air-conditioning controls in 16 buildings; update irrigation system controls to regulate water use across campus; improve 1,290 toilets, urinals, faucets and shower heads to conserve and regulate water use; upgrade 1,559 interior and exterior lighting fixtures with LED technology; and reduce computer power consumption by running computer load management software.
The improvements should save more than 7.2 million kilowatt-hours per year, the university said, which is equivalent to saving 5,596 tons of carbon dioxide per year. This is the same as removing 1,054 cars from the road or powering 689 homes per year.
It also hopes to save more than 7.1 million gallons of water per year, the equivalent of 11 Olympic-size swimming pools or the average annual water use for 79 homes.
Houston-based The Way Cos. will implement the project. It has completed similar projects at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Houston, Baylor University and Rice University.
Southlake medical office building completed
Adolfson & Peterson has completed a medical office building at the Southlake campus of Forest Park Medical Center.
The four-story, 88,159-square-foot building has a grand entrance atrium, elevator core and shell space for future clinic tenants.
A two-story enclosed connector joins the building with Forest Park Medical Center Southlake hospital, completed by Adolfson & Peterson in April 2013.
A&P partnered with developer LandPlan and Neal Richards Group on the project.
