A high-end grocery store will go on the first floor of a four-story building planned for the WestBend shopping center and office development on University Drive.
Fort Worth-based Trademark Property Co., the developer of the office, retail and restaurant project just south of Interstate 30 and across from University Park Village, said this week that it plans a 76,500-square-foot building and has a “newly signed anchor” for the 20,000-square-foot first level. The top three levels will have office space.
Michael Bennett with Bennett Benner in Fort Worth, the project’s architect, told the Zoning Commission when it approved a change to the development’s plan Wednesday that a grocery store will go into the building. He did not name the grocer, and Trademark officials said Thursday that they agreed not to disclose the tenant’s name.
The four-story building will be at the back of the development, along the Trinity River, adjoined by an 80-space parking lot that the grocer required, Bennett said.

Initially, WestBend’s plans called for a 135-room Hyatt Place hotel above a level of retail space at the site.
Trademark said it is also putting a 7,500-square-foot retail building in the center of the property. The two new buildings will complete the 278,000-square-foot project, the company said. Construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2014 and be completed in spring 2015, Trademark said.
In 2012, Trademark completed a parking garage that had sat unfinished for 21/2 years. Construction of the seven-story, 798-space garage started in 2008 but stopped in January 2009. Trademark halted the entire development in the economic downturn. But in 2010, it completed a 5,200-square-foot building leased to Zoe’s Kitchen and Smashburger.
WestBend also includes the Silver Fox restaurant and the 120,000-square-foot River Plaza office building. In 2008, Trademark joined RP Partners of Fort Worth, owner of River Plaza at 1701 River Run, and other investors on the project.
