The University of Texas at Arlington men’s basketball team hit 12 3-pointers in its season-opening victory against Bradley on Friday at the Carver Center in Peoria, Ill.
“Our guys played really well and moved the ball around,” Mavericks coach Scott Cross said, about the nonconference game. “Our young guys played awesome in the first half and through the entire game. I’m really proud of them.”
Senior Jamel Outler and freshman Kevin Hervey each had three 3-pointers for UTA. Sophomore guard Drew Charles scored 14 points. Outler, Hervey and junior guard Johnny Hill each scored 13.
“It was better than I expected,” Cross said. “We played phenomenal. We attacked and played solid defense.”
The Mavericks have won the last two meetings against Bradley, a Missouri Valley Conference team, and trail the all-time series against the Braves 3-2. UTA improved to 8-1 in season-openers under Cross.
UTA returns home for its College Park Center opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Buffalo.
